Alex has a Master's and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago.

Alex taught at several Brazilian and US universities.

He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Brazilian Business and Public Management Issues of George Washington University, where he is also a Visiting Lecturer.
